DP Performance Optimization (2009)
What it Was
During the "What Will You Celebrate" promotion, the Disney Parks website was the central marketing site for all Disney theme parks. The site was loaded with rich media and video... and it was very slow. We wanted to fix that.
What I Did
I helped rewrite much of the frontend for the Disney Parks site, focusing on improving the guest experience by reducing site load times. By creating new techniques for legacy websites to implement performance best-practices, I helped drastically improve the perceived performance on the Disney Parks website, while also creating artifacts which could be reused on other websites within the organization.
Why You Should Care
The perceived load times on the site were reduced by over 50%. With help from the analytics teams, we also showed that guests were staying on the site longer and continuing to deeper pages, leading to more conversions.
After presenting the results to executive leadership, performance became a large focus across the organization.
